2015 Field Book Albariño
As we pursue our love for interesting varietals from distinctive vineyard sites, we are thrilled to offer a second exploration of the Field Book wine series—an Albariño from Rusty Gate Farm in western Sonoma County. We craft this wine exclusively for our Top Spott! and Spott On! members in honor of and appreciation for their enthusiasm for Spottswoode, and production is extremely small. Only 129 cases were produced.
Albariño is a complex, bright, and expressive white varietal that originates from the Rías Baixas region in northwestern Spain and northern Portugal. In our search for a second Field Book wine, we found this expressive varietal growing at Rusty Gate Farm in the rolling upland hills of Laguna Ridge in the Russian River Valley appellation. Roughly two acres of Albariño vines grow at this compelling site in deep, well-drained sandy loam soil alongside heirloom peach and apple orchards that date back to the late 19th century.
