2016 Field Book Albariño
As we pursue our love for distinctive varietals from exceptional vineyard sites, we are thrilled to offer, for the second year in a row, an Albariño from Rusty Gate Farm in western Sonoma County. We craft our Field Book wine exclusively for our Top Spott! and Spott On! members in honor of and appreciation for their enthusiasm for Spottswoode. Production is extremely small—only 172 cases are available!
Albariño is a complex, bright, and expressive white varietal that originates from the Rías Baixas region in northwestern Spain and northern Portugal. In our search for a second Field Book wine, we found this compelling varietal growing at Rusty Gate Farm in the rolling upland hills of Laguna Ridge in the Russian River Valley appellation. Roughly two acres of Albariño vines are planted here in deep, well-drained sandy loam soil alongside heirloom peach and apple orchards that date back to the late 19th century.
