Estate Sauvignon Blanc “Mary’s Block”
2022

Through a rare blend of grace and grit, Mary Weber Novak quietly established Spottswoode as one of Napa Valley’s finest first-growth family wine estates. In 1984, just two years after the inaugural vintage of our Cabernet Sauvignon, Spottswoode began pioneering Sauvignon Blanc from its estate – well before this grape was recognized as one of the finest white varietals. It was Mary’s favorite wine. 

The original block was removed after the 1990 harvest due to phylloxera. With Mary’s enthusiastic encouragement, a unique 1.07-acre parcel was planted in 2000 in the southwestern corner of the vineyard adjacent to the banks of Spring Creek. It was named Mary’s Block in her honor, and we have bottled this special Estate Sauvignon Blanc since 2016. The resulting wine is a pure, singular expression of Sauvignon Blanc from our estate vineyard. 

Just 128 cases of 750 ml and 20 cases of magnums of the 2022 vintage were bottled, exclusively for our Spott! members. As you enjoy this special estate wine, please know that 20% of your purchase is donated to the Land Trust of Napa County, a land-conservation organization the Novak family has long respected and supported.

Winemaker Notes: The 2022 Mary’s Block Sauvignon Blanc is complex and juicy with a dynamic tension. The nose jumps from the glass, layered with aromas of boxwood, citrus, stone fruit, cassis bud, vanilla, and meringue. There is a firm acidic precision accentuated by layers of lemon and grapefruit. The citrus on in the mouth has a slight saline edge that pushes forward the textural fruits of white peach and guava. With time in the glass, this wine gains in texture and complexity, all while maintaining its juicy finish that leaves you salivating for more.
