2013 Spottswoode Sauvignon Blanc

Over 70% of the fruit for the 2013 Sauvignon Blanc Estate comes from Sonoma. It reveals surprising flavor intensity with lots of melon, fig, flint and mineral characteristics. Medium-bodied but surprisingly intense and rich, this dry, crisp white is one of the better Sauvignons made in Northern California. Drink it over the next several years. 90 points (October 31, 2014)

Spottswoode’s 2013 Sauvignon Blanc is bright, floral and perfumed. Lemon peel, white flowers and mint are all laced together in a pretty, crisp wine that will drink well for the next handful of years. 91 points (December 2014)

This Spottswoode wine has been one of Napa’s best for almost three decades, and the 2013 is another success. The combination of Sonoma and Napa fruit – fermented in a combination of stainless steel, French oak and concrete eggs – is full-bodied but marked by a vibrant acidity and a beguiling nose of lime zest and honeydew. Bright lemon-yellow color. Vibrant nose combines pineapple, lemon, aromatic herbs, grass, anise and peppermint. At once ripe and pliant and energetic, displaying good grip to the flavors of white peach, green melon and cassis bud. Finishes dry and classic, with good length. 91 points (May/June 2014)

“Though this is from the pricier side of California Sauvignon Blanc, it’s worth a look. Lemon pith jumps out up front on the nose, with notes of lime and grapefruit and a touch of grass in the background. On the palate it’s crisp and lively, with the lemon and grapefruit blended nicely with mild herb elements. With the current identity crisis this grape is going through in the state, this wine could be a leader out of the chaos. 91 points (December 9, 2014)
